Lifecycle of Organizational Change

Phase 7 - Normalization of Results

The final phase of the change lifecycle is where the new status quo is established and sustained. The envisioned future is now a reality...or maybe not.

An aspect of this phase is the on-going monitoring that may be required. Changes implemented under a heavy top-down, compliance-driven change approach may require an ongoing compliance tracking system, e.g., a reporting mechanism, a reward and sanction process, etc. that ensures the needed changes remain in place. The cost of this  mechanism is also part of the long-term cost of change.

Implementations that are commitment-driven (more participatory in nature) are less likely to need the same level of compliance monitoring. Changes that are internalized during transition have a greater chance of becoming self-monitoring. Self-monitoring reduces the long-term cost.
